FAQ
Is all of Canada covered?
Not yet. We currently cover Toronto, Ottawa, Brampton, Mississauga, and Montreal. We're actively working through more Canadian cities as their police and municipal open-data portals let us add them.
What time span is included?
It depends on the city — each one's portal publishes a different amount of history, anywhere from a couple of years to two decades back. Current-year data is always kept up to date.
Where does the data come from?
Each covered city's own police or municipal open-data portal — the same public data those departments already publish, not anything we collect ourselves.
How often is it updated?
Daily.
What are the 13 categories?
Assault, sexual assault, robbery, shooting, homicide, break & enter, auto theft, theft from vehicle, theft, bike theft, mischief, fraud, other. See categories for definitions.
How is location privacy handled?
We never show exact addresses. Coordinates are blurred to roughly a city block before an incident is mapped.
Can I download the full dataset?
No bulk download here. Use each city's own open-data portal for raw files.
