Categories
Every mapped incident falls into one of 13 categories. Some cities' portals don't publish every category, so a category showing zero incidents there may just mean it isn't tracked in that city's open data yet, not that it didn't happen.
- Assault
- Physical attacks on a person, from police-reported assault categories.
- Sexual assault
- Sexual offences reported by police services.
- Robbery
- Theft involving force or the threat of force.
- Shooting
- Discharge of a firearm offences where mapped.
- Homicide
- Culpable homicide reports — rare and geo-masked by most services.
- Break & enter
- Unlawful entry into a premises with intent to commit an offence.
- Auto theft
- Theft of a motor vehicle.
- Theft from vehicle
- Theft of property from inside a vehicle.
- Theft
- General theft (over/under thresholds vary by service).
- Bike theft
- Theft of a bicycle where the service separates it.
- Mischief
- Wilful damage to property.
- Fraud
- Deception offences — often reported where the victim lives, not where it happened.
- Other
- Everything a portal publishes outside the categories above; split into weapons, threats, harassment, drugs, traffic, bylaw, calls for service, and other crime where labels allow.
